Apple's Mac App Store Is Selling Spyware Posing As Anti-Malware
  • 6 years ago

Digital Trends reports Apple let an application into its Mac App Store that instead of being an anti-malware program as advertised, was actually spyware. The app is called Adware Doctor, and retails for $5 on Apple’s online storefront. Security researchers discovered that the malicious app actually collects users' browsing history across the Safari, Chrome, and Firefox browsers. It then sends that data to a China-based server. Originally, the app was posed as Adware Medic.
