U.S. to Charge North Koreans Over WannaCry, Sony Cyberattacks

According to Reuters, the U.S. Justice Department is poised to charge North Korean hackers over the May 2017 global WannaCry ransomware attack and the 2014 cyberattack on Sony. According to the Washington Post, action taken by the Justice Department will also include new sanctions against North Korea. According to the Post, the WannaCry attack affected more than 200,000 victims in 150 countries. The charges are part of a strategy by the U.S. government to deter future cyberattacks.
