UBER WILL FINALLY
ADD SAFETY FEATURES Uber has been in business
for about a decade but is
just now rolling out some
much needed safety features. The rideshare company announced in April
that it was "getting serious about safety," which
was reiterated in a blog post on Wednesday. The first feature
mentioned is
called Ride Check. Ride Check will use GPS and
"other sensors in the driver's smartphone"
to identify accidents or indicate danger such
as "a long, unexpected stop during a trip." A Safety Toolkit and panic button will be available to drivers and riders
via the app. Voice activated commands for drivers will also become available, providing the option to talk to users hands-free. Additionally, users' phone
numbers and exact addresses
will no longer be exposed. Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO, via blog post Not all of these features are available
to everyone currently, but they are expected to
be implemented "over the coming months."
