Report: Trump Inauguration Photos Were Edited To Make Crowd Appear Bigger

The Guardian reports that photos from President Trump's inauguration were edited to address the crowd size issue.

The Guardian reported on Thursday that photos of President Trump's January 2017 inauguration were edited to make the crowd appear larger.  "The photographer cropped out empty space 'where the crowd ended' for a new set of pictures requested by Trump on the first morning of his presidency, after he was angered by images showing his audience was smaller than Barack Obama's in 2009," according to the media outlet. The Guardian gleaned that information from the U.S. Department of the Interior documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, but noted it was unable to determine whether any of the enhanced photos were used.  It also pointed out that the request made didn't specify cropping as a solution, but the person who removed the sparsely-populated areas of the image was under the impression that it was the type of solution being sought.  The size of the inauguration audience was a serious and sensitive issue for the Trump administration, with then-Press Secretary Sean Spicer saying during his first press briefing that it "was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period, both in person and around the globe." He has since expressed regret for doing so.
"There are things that I'd absolutely love to do over and that I could've done better," Spicer said in a July interview. "I had to do them in front of millions of people, and I wish I could've done a better job."
