Tokyo admits to first radiation death from Fukushima nuclear disaster
  • 6 years ago
The Japanese government has admitted that a man who worked at the earthquake-stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant died after radiation exposure.
The man in his 50s was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016.
This is the first death that Tokyo has acknowledged as being due to radiation from the meltdown during the 2011 tremor.
The Japanese government had previously only linked the radiation to illnesses in four workers.
Tokyo's health ministry has decided to compensate the man's family.
