John Bash, a US attorney for the Western District of Texas and the husband of former White House policy adviser Zina Bash, said in a Tuesday tweet that his wife was not flashing a white power signal during the hearing of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, reports the Daily Beast. "The attacks today on my wife are repulsive. Everyone tweeting this vicious conspiracy theory should be ashamed of themselves," John Bash wrote. "We weren't even familiar with the hateful symbol being attributed to her for the random way she rested her hand during a long hearing."  He also noted that his wife was born in Mexico, has a Jewish father, and that her grandparents are Holocaust survivors. According to CBS News, the gesture in question looks like an "OK" sign and became associated with white power through the spread of an Internet post.  "It began as a 4chan troll effort…but it has evolved into a symbol used by the alt right (and, occasionally, other white supremacists), the alt lite, and also various MAGA-type Trump supporters. Most still use it to troll (to 'own the libs')," Mark Pivcavage, a senior fellow with the Anti-Defamation League, said in a tweet.
