The Reasons Behind The Alps' Incredible Season Of Alpine Climbing | EpicTV Climbing Daily, Ep. 405

t’s been an incredible autumn here in the Alps, where we’ve enjoyed almost unprecedented conditions on major north faces. The Grandes Jorasses in particular saw more ascents than it probably has done in the last 5 years combined, with up to 30 teams climbing the face on any single day. We decided to get the expert take on why conditions were so good and caught up with British guide and alpinist Jon Bracey. Next, we’re sticking with the alpine theme and we’re joining a bunch of climbers who have more to contend with than most of us. Matt Spohn, Blake McCord and Steve Richert are all type 1 diabetic but they refuse to be held back by this and recently travelled to the Wind River Gorge in Wyoming to make adventurous first ascents in this wild place. They’ve made a film about it and here is the trailer. Steve founded an organization to empower people with diabetes through adventure (livingvertical.org) and have been using climbing and short indie films to get the message out. That message is to go beyond the limits of diabetes--or whatever the specific challenges are that you face. The final work is actually going to be completed in partnership with a diabetes research non profit called T1D Exchange in hopes that we can help get the message out more to people who need it and to help them accelerate some very exciting research.
