Kanye Cries Apologizing For Slavery Comments, But Blames Don C For Not Being There To Stop Him

Earlier this summer, Kanye West sparked headlines when he spoke publicly about his love for President Donald Trump and his belief that slavery was a choice. Fans and critics alike were shocked at the rapper’s words. The Chicago rapper tried to clear things up with Jimmy Kimmel, but didn’t have great answers to all the questions. In a new interview with WGCI Chicago, the 41-year-old finally apologized for those comments. But he didn’t exactly take full responsibility. Watch the clip above to see how Kanye tries to shirk all the blame.
“The people who were around and are starting to make money, they just didn’t care about me as much,” he said. “Because Kanye West was an entity, a money-making machine, and you get into that situation and you don’t have people that are continuously looking out for your best interests at all costs.”
He continued, getting more emotional, “I even had people that was with me at TMZ that could’ve stopped it, that could’ve said, ‘Yo it was going too far.'”
“So I believe that the downfall of Kanye West is directly related to Don C not being around,” he concluded. “Don is actually,” he said, but then started to cry. He journeyed on. “Don is actually in town right now, because I told him I need him to be there for me so shit like this don’t happen to me, Cause …”
Then he broke down, completely crying. Don C is a streetwear designer and friend of Kanye.
Yeezy’s actual apology was a little more eloquent. He said, “I don’t know if I properly apologized for how the slavery comment made people feel. I’m sorry for the one-two effect of the MAGA hat into the slave comment, and I’m sorry for people that felt let down by that moment. And I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to talk to you about the way I was thinking and what I was going through.”
Still, in other ways, he doubled down on the controversial comments saying, “It sounds like a choice to me, to Kanye West,” he said. “I’m not a historian, I’m Kanye West.” He also compared himself to Nat Turner and Harriet Tubman.
Kanye also revealed that he’s never voted.
