Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, attends reopening of historic Royal rail station
  • 6 years ago
Following a terrible fire in May 2015 Ballater Railway Station in Royal Deeside, Scotland, was reopened on Monday 20th August 2018 following a £3m refurbishment.

Aberdeenshire Provost Bill Howatson performed an official opening address and a lone piper from Ballater & District Pipe Band welcomed visitors.

The station was, until the 1960s, a regular stopping point of the Royal Family travelling to Balmoral, and has remained a local tourist spot and landmark for this reason.

After the public ceremony and viewing there was a private viewing of the facilities, by Her Royal Highness Camilla, the Duchess of Rothesay and Cornwall.

Currently there features a tourist information centre, library, tearoom, bistro and exhibition space.
