Lucmacha primary school used to have more than 300 students, now there are only three. Every day, these three students have to cross a deep valley to get to and from school. In the village nearest to the school, there are no people who are younger than 40 years-old, all the young people have left. SCMP reporter went to visit this emptying village deep in the mountains in northwest China, talked to the teachers, students and the farmers, and tried to record the dire poverty they were living in, and their struggles for a better life.
