끝나지 않는 무더운 밤...서울 18일째 열대야

Last Wednesday, the country sizzled under extreme heat.
The mercury peaked to its highest level in over a century.
Still today, the hot and humid conditions continue long after the sun sets.
Kim Da-mi turns the spotlight to how the sleepless tropical nights are affecting people.
Citizens taking late-night walks, or munching on snacks well past sunset… these scenes are not hard to find this summer.
Nighttime temperatures across the country have continued to hit record highs amid an extended heat wave, keeping people awake at night.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, residents of Yeosu City have experienced 21 consecutive tropical nights, where the temperature doesn't fall below 25 degrees Celsius. In fact, the lowest nighttime temperature in Yeosu during that period was 28.1 degrees Celsius.
Seoul citizens have also had tropical nights for 18 consecutive days.
The weather agency says that cloud cover is preventing the heat from leaving the country, leading to night after night of temperatures above 25 degrees.
So people across the country are discovering and enjoying their own ways to beat the heat even after the sunset.
Here in Seoul, people are flocking to Cheonggyecheon Stream and the Hangang River parks to cool down. And indoor activities with air conditioning such as going to the movies are also popular.
The weather agency says such tropical nights will continue for a while longer.
