Korean Pop becomes quite the rage in India

Psy's Gangnam style of music has become a global rage especially among dance music enthusiasts who seem to lose no opportunity to wiggle to this catchy new Korean pop genre. Gangnam Style moves infiltrated not only South Asia and Bollywood but also youth across the world, turning their attention towards Korea.

Typically, K-Pop comprises of electronic, hip-hop, pop, rock, as well as R&B music. Originating in South Korea, K-Pop has gone on to become a sub-culture throughout Asia. Basically, K-Pop comprises of a mix of western and Korean music as well as dance moves. In the Indian context, this could mean a mix of Bollywood, western and Korean musical styles.

K-Pop - short for Korean Pop – is catchy enough to hook the younger demographic instantly. Psy’s iconic Gangnam Style worked as an introduction to the genre, so much so that even in a Punjabi wedding in North India, you can see people grooving to the beats of the song.

After the grand triumph of K-POP Contest in 2014, the K-POP syndrome has swept across India. K- Wave which was much more popular in the North East and South India has now spread like wild-fire across the nation.

After the sensational tour of N-SONIC in 2014, the first ever KPOP concert in India, the Korean Cultural Centre enthralled its audience with another overwhelming concert cum contest in 2015 with much more exciting surprises. The supporters and sponsors joined hands to promote the 4th edition of K POP 2015 Festival taking place across major cities of India.

This year, the KPOP preliminary round was held in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Mizoram and Patna. Nepal had a special entry as well. Winners of the Online round performed LIVE at the preliminary round in their respective regions and the winners of each preliminary round represented the region at the finals of the KPOP Cover Contest India in New Delhi. The final winners of the respective song and dance categories will perform and compete at the KPOP World Festival in Korea!
