Comey: Americans Should 'Stand Together' To Counter Russia's Meddling Efforts

Former FBI Director James Comey took to Twitter on Friday and urged Americans to "stand together."
"We must get better at disagreeing without hating," Comey wrote. "The Russians know 'a house divided against itself cannot stand.' So they push us on social media from all sides. If we stand together as Americans and debate issues respectfully, then our true enemies will be defeated."
In another tweet, he wrote: "And I should have added: I never read Twitter comments, but I'm guessing you will be able to see examples of the problem there."
Comey's tweets came a day after senior U.S. officials warned of continued Russian election meddling.
"In regards to Russian involvement in the midterm elections, we continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russia to try to weaken and divide the United States," Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said at a briefing on Thursday.
"Our democracy itself is in the crosshairs," Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen added. "Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, and it has become clear that they are the target of our adversaries, who seek, as the DNI just said, to sow discord and undermine our way of life."
