Daffy Duck is an animated cartoon character produced by Warner Bros. Styled as an anthropomorphic black duck, the character has appeared in cartoon series such as Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, where he usually has been depicted as the best friend and occasional arch-rival of Bugs Bunny. Ego-maniacal, sassy, immature and unapologetically flawed, Daffy has been staying with his best friend, Bugs Bunny for five years, until he gets "back on his feet", which takes time to do so.
Daffy is a very daft and dramatic character. Daffy Duck is a gangly, black-feathered duck whose explosive temperament and insatiable ego lead him into an endless series of comic misadventures. He is a cornerstone of the Warner Bros. stable of animated characters. Daffy first appeared in director Tex Avery’s and animator Bob Clampett’s short Porky’s Duck Hunt(1937).
In his early days he was a hyperactive, at times silly, character whose madcap capers were fueled by an unpredictable personality. His frequent sidekick was the bashful and stammering Porky Pig. Daffy’s own manner of expression included a prominent lisp often accompanied by the expelling of saliva.
Daffy was one of the first of the new "screwball" characters that emerged in the late 1930s to replace traditional everyman characters who were more popular earlier in the decade, such as Mickey Mouse and Popeye. Daffy starred in 130 shorts in the golden age, making him the third-most frequent character in the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons, behind Bugs Bunny's 180 appearances and Porky Pig's 162 appearances.
