On the day of Kalashtami, the devotees observe a strict fasting and perform puja to Lord Kalabhairav along with Lord Shiva and Parvati. The altar is set up early int eh morning after holy bath and the idol of Kalabhairav is given holy bath and puja is done as per the interest of the devotee. The most important thing to chant on this day is Kalabhairava Ashtakam. At the end of the puja, Prasad is offered to the Lord with prayers for protection.

काल अष्टमी के दिन भैरव पूजन से भूत और बुरी शक्तियां दूर भाग जाती है। मान्यता के अनुसार भगवान भैरव का वाहन काला कुत्ता माना जाता है। इस दिन काले कुत्ते को रोटी जरूर खिलानी चाहिए। कालाष्टमी पर किसी पास के मंदिर जाकर काल भैरव के सामने दीपक जरूर जलाना चाहिए। कालाष्टमी व्रत बहुत ही फलदायी माना जाता है। इस दिन व्रत रखकर पूरे विधि-विधान से काल भैरव की पूजा करने से व्यक्ति के सारे कष्ट मिट जाते हैं।
