Taxis camp out along central Madrid thoroughfare as strike intensifies

Hundreds of taxi drivers in Madrid continued their two-day campout on one of the city's main thoroughfares on Tuesday, July 31 as part of an ongoing protest against what they view as unfair competition from ride-hailing services like Uber and Cabify.

Following an unsuccessful meeting between taxi representatives and government officials on Monday, taxi associations decided to maintain their nationwide stoppages and camp out between Gregorio Marañón Square and Nuevos Ministerios. Except for the bus lane,, there was only one free lane going each way on Paseo de la Castellana the next morning.

This video from Tuesday night shows the drivers gathered along the normally traffic-heavy Paseo de la Castellana.
