Thomas Van der Plaetsen defeats cancer and wins European decathlon gold

Following the Zurich 2014 European Athletics Championships, Belgian decathlete Thomas Van der Plaetsen was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Not only did he defeat this disease but came back even stronger to win European gold last month in Amsterdam. Van der Plaetsen finished 8th in Rio with a personal best 8332 points!
