Having played college-level basketball and American football during their time at the University of Southern California, twin brothers Adam and Ryan Goldston first began designing their proprietary six-spring shoe mechanism -- which would later be named “Load ‘N Launch” -- in their dorm room, and by senior year, they had created a working prototype. Thus, APL debuted its first Concept 1 line for preorder in 2010, 15 months after the twins graduated from business school. The fledgling brand was giving an unlikely boost in October 2010 when the NBA was made aware of the Load ‘N Launch’s ability to increase a wearer’s jump height by 3.5 inches, thus banning the brand’s products and helping the brand sell nine months worth of inventory in 72 hours. Follow the brothers as they provide a glimpse of the growth of their brand since, as well as revisiting those who first made their journey possible.
