Process: Crafting Footwear with Modern Vice

In this edition of PROCESS, New York-based bootmaker Modern Vice gives us a look inside its workshop where its handmade designs are realized. Brothers Jordan and Jensen Adoni launched its Modern Vice collection just one year ago with the expansion from its early beginnings as an importer of men's sneakers, to a full-fledged domestic operation — one that seeks to break new grounds through treatments of classic silhouettes while upholding uncompromising craftsmanship. Particular attention is given to the range of patterns and fabrics used in its handmade creations including a rich variety of premium sourced leathers from tanneries around the world. Of course, it takes a lot of effort and talent to transform the materials adorning Modern Vice's impressive leather room into the timeless boots they produce. As a brand that strives to earn its respect less through its "Made in New York" associations, but through the passion and commitment of its workers, the tight-knit family nature of the workshop couldn't be overemphasized. Modern Vice is headed by the two brothers who were themselves raised by a shoe shop owner mother and a shoe factory owner father, and its line of production is overseen by teams of husbands and wives, fathers and sons, and brothers.
