Two Georgia police officers, Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson, were fired on July 26, after a probe into a bodycam footage revealed they had used a coin-flip app to determine whether they should arrest a woman who was allegedly speeding in April.“This isn’t a police procedure, to bring a coin flip — whether it’s an app or an actual coin toss — that’s not part of that decision making to decide to take someone’s freedom,” said Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant in the termination letter.In this video, provided to Storyful by the Roswell city government, Brown and WIlson are heard discussing what they should do with the driver, Sarah Webb.Brown said she didn’t have speed detection equipment and Wilson said she didn’t have any tickets. Brown later opened a coin-toss app on her phone.In the video’s audio, Wilson is heard saying, “A (arrest) head, R (release) tail,” and “This is tail, right?” Brown said, “Yeah. So release?” and Wilson replied, “23”, which is the police’s code for arrest, according to WXIA.Webb later said in July that she was driving fast because she was late for her job at a hair salon. The charges were dismissed on July 9, WXIA reported.Brown and Wilson were initially placed on administrative leave amid WXIA’s investigative report about the arrest.
