It is on hot summer evenings like these that local pubs get busy after work.
But, we hear they're especially hustle and bustle in downtown Seoul.
We go live to Gwanghwanmun Square, where our Moon Connyoung is standing by.
Connyoung, what brings you there today at this hour.

As we all know, Daniel, the entire nation has been suffering from an extensive heat wave for weeks now... and it's on one of these sizzling hot evenings that a glass of ice cold beer can do its magic.
That's exactly what President Moon Jae-in came out here - the Gwanghwanmun Square - to do; in fact, he's meeting with the ordinary Korean people at a local pub not too far from where I'm standing... chatting over beer, as we speak.

If you remember back to President Moon's campaign, standing right here in Gwanghwamun Square, then candidate Moon Jae-in vowed to become a president who stops the local market after work to share a cup of Makgeolli - now that's Korean traditional rice liquor - with fellow Koreans. So you could say that tonight, he's making good on that campaign pledge he made 15 months ago, for the very first time.

Behind that pledge, of course, was his willingness to keep the communication channel open. He wanted to keep his ears open to the Korean people. Tonight, the main issue he kept his ears open to, I'm only learning as I speak to you, Daniel, is the latest minimum wage hike.

So, how did the evening unfold?

Well, with lots of surprise, I must say. He met with all those affected by the minimum wage hike.
The employee, the convenience store owner, lunch meal manufacturer, the job seeker to woman whose career path had halted due to marriage and giving childbirth.
A Blue House official said tonight's event was arranged based on the president's desire to step out and listen to the people first hand on how current economic affairs are impacting various players of the economy.
