Bharathiraja plays a writer who saves a young girl from suicide in his upcoming directorial OM. He says that the film is about a writer who writes under the acronym,OM (Bharathiraja). He travels to London on work where he meets the girl (played by Nakshatra). He saves her and asks her to join him on a 10 day trip, to help her understand what life is all about forms the crux of the film. The movie does not have anything to do with the Hindu religion, he said. In a recent interview, the director said: “People ask me if OM reflects the scared sound or spiritual symbol of Hindu religion. No! OM is an acronym of ‘Old Man’, which denotes me in the film.” Bharathiraja observed that most directors these days opt for fair-skinned women from Mumbai or Kerala. “Of late I don’t see many Tamil speaking girls in Tamil cinema. These days, directors opt to import white skinned girls from Mumbai and even from Kerala, but they are not ‘my’ ladies.
