Trader Joe's Shooting Victim Was Killed by Police Bullet Melyda Corado, an assistant manager at the LA Trader Joe's, was exiting the store as Gene Evin Atkins was entering after being chased by police. She was caught in the crossfire between the two and was struck by an officer's bullet. Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore, via CNN The shootout occurred when Atkins crashed into a pole outside of the Trader Joe's during a police chase. The chase ensued after Atkins shot his grandmother and kidnapped a
