Sweltering heat to continue _ 072318

South Korea saw record breaking temperatures over the weekend.
Here in Seoul we had a high of 38 degrees Celsius, the fourth highest temperature in the capital since 1994.
It's forecast to be another very hot day and our weather caster Lee Jee-hyun is at Yongma Waterfall Park in eastern Seoul, braving the heat for us to give us a rundown on a perfect place to stay cool.
Jee-hyun, I hear the waterfall isn't natural but manmade,... but is it at least giving you some relief from the heat?

Good morning, Mark. Not much, actually.
But it's definitely a place to check out, not to mention Yongma Waterfall Park is the highest artificial waterfall in Asia.
It's still early in the morning and the staff have turned on the waterfall for us but I'm afraid to say it doesn't help that much. Lingering heat from the past few days are giving us tropical nights and a very warm morning. It's already 30 degrees Celsius here in the capital and ..

we'll see temperatures soaring to the mid-thirties this afternoon. As Mark mentioned, Seoul saw a high of 38 on Sunday, 39.3 degrees in the capital's Seocho-gu District... even at night you can feel that steamy heat wherever you are.

Today is Daeseo on the solar calendar, meaning big heat... but we've already seen severe heat for nearly ten days and heatwave warnings are in place everywhere except some parts of Jeju.

Extremely strong UV rays will continue to beat down and everyone will feel very uncomfortable especially waking up at least couple of times at night, many are tired of ongoing heat.

Most parts had tropical nights, Seoul waking up to a low of 27 degrees.

Highs in Seoul, Chuncheon and Daejeon will be at 35 degrees, a couple notches lower than yesterday, we'll see 37 degrees in Daegu and Gyeongju.

The heat will stay with us for another week or so. Be sure to drink plenty of water and take good care of yourself.

That's all for now, but I will have more updates on our later newscast.

Ok, Jeehyun. Try and stay cool and we'll speak to you again later.
