An American flag was burned outside U.S. Representative Maxine Waters’ Los Angeles office.

An American flag was burned outside Democratic Representative Maxine Waters' Los Angeles office Thursday after a group of far-right demonstrators failed to materialize in a planned rally against her, notes CBS News.
The incident reportedly occurred when people hoping to confront the Oath Keepers militia group grabbed a flag from a passing pickup truck occupied by two white men and set it on fire, with someone said to have yelled, "This is not the American flag, this is their flag."
According to KNBC, the situation began when the Oath Keepers group called its members to demonstrate against Waters that afternoon to protest her comments about the Trump administration.
However, police indicated that the group eventually called off the rally to avoid clashing with counter-protesters.
In response to the flag burning that did occur outside her office, Congresswoman Waters said in a statement, in part, "I must once again reiterate that non-violent and peaceful protest is a right we are all entitled to under the Constitution."
"While most of those counter-protesters remained peaceful, I have learned that there were others in attendance who...participated as counter-protesters not so much in support of me, but to seek press attention in furtherance of their own agendas," Waters added.
