Fire ball erupts from cake at Science Teachers 50th birthday party

A self-styled "nutty professor" from Australia surprised his science teacher colleague today (Saturday) with a birthday cake which shoots flames.

"As part of the 50th birthday party for our... colleague, Corina, we made a birthday cake which erupted flames," explained Jacob Strickling.

"Once the 50 candles had been ignited with a gas torch, the birthday girl had to blow hard on a rubber tube. This caused cooking flour to blow out of a funnel embedded in the cake. The cloud of fine flour particles was ignited by the candles resulting in a large ball of fire emanating from the cake," Strickling said.

The cool clip was captured near Gosford in New South Wales.

Aside from being a science teacher, Jacob Strickling is an amateur inventor who also runs the popular YouTube channel 'Make Science Fun'.
