Lucky escape after speeding bus lurches into opposite lane on India highway

This is the moment a speeding bus in India jumps over a central reservation and enters the opposite lane of a highway.

As the driver struggles to bring his vehicle to a halt, the bus avoids narrow collision with a car and at least two motorbikes.

The incident occurred at a highway near Hyderabad in South India on July 16.

Eyewitnesses said a man, who was crossing the road, failed to notice an incoming bus and stepped right in front of the vehicle.

To avoid hitting him, the bus driver swerved to his right and drove into the opposite lane.

The incident was caught on two traffic cameras. The footage from the second camera shows a biker veering to his left sharply to avoid the bus that suddenly appears.

Mohan Kumar, 46, a local shopkeeper who witnessed the mishap said: “The crowded bus missed several vehicles by inches. It was a lucky day for everyone.”

Local police have lodged the case and are probing the incident. An official said both the man and the bus driver seemed to be at fault.

“The man should have been alert while crossing the road and the driver failed to slow down at the zebra crossing,” he said.
