Eight Endangered Black Rhinos Died In Kenya This Week
  • 6 years ago
Eight rhinos died at a national park in Kenya just over a week after the animals were moved. CNN reports the rhinos were among 11 that were moved from the Nairobi and Nakuru national parks to Tsavo East National Park, in a process known as translocation. The move was meant to boost the depleting rhino population in the country. An official at the Kenya Tourism Ministry said, "This kind of mortality rate is unprecedented." Kenya's WildlifeDirect has called the rhino's death "a major conservation tragedy." A preliminary investigation into the incident showed that they died of salt poisoning in their new environment.
