Eric Lerner Explains The History Behind Present Immigration Law

The immigration laws of the United States are Unconstitutional. 150 years ago, freedom of movement was recognized by the U.S. government. Congress said that "the right of expatriation is a natural and inherent right of all people and in recognition of this principle this government has freely received immigrants from all nations." A treaty with China passed the next day stated that "the U.S. of America recognizes the inherent and inalienable right of man to change his home and allegiance. The mutual advantage of free migration and immigration from one country to the other for purposes of curiosity, trade or permanent residence."

Twenty years later, the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1889 was supported by the Supreme Court using toxic myths of racism and national security that is used today to justify present immigration laws.

"It is time to stop honoring these laws, to stop enforcing these laws, to drive this abomination out of every county and place in the United States. Tonight, now, vote as you have the power to do, to end the contract with ICE to hold immigrant detainees without charge or trial in Essex County."
