Build-A-Bear sale draws long lines at malls nationwide with "Pay Your Age" deal

If you think spending nine hours waiting in line for a stuffed animal is ridiculous, well, that's exactly what was on the agenda for these families and children today.

Lines snaked inside malls across America as the popular DIY store launched a today-only "Pay Your Age" deal, meaning that parents pay an amount equivalent to their child's age. At as low as US$1 a bear for children below a year old, the promotion is a more than attractive draw as a single toy normally retails for at least US$25.

This video, taken by Chandler Lear on July 12, shows the scene at Towne East Mall in Wichita, Kansas.

The promotion attracted crowds so extreme the stores had to close its lines and turn shoppers away. Build-A-Bear later issued a statement on Twitter that they thank everyone for their patience and support, and that they will be distributing vouchers to guests for a future purchase.
