Build-A-Bear closes off stores after "Pay Your Age" deal draws overwhelming crowds

Build-A-Bear issued a statement on July 12 that it was no longer accepting guests after crowds flocked to the stores for the "Pay Your Age" deal.

Lines snaked inside malls across the US, Canada and the UK as the popular DIY store launched a today-only "Pay Your Age" deal, meaning that parents paid an amount equivalent to their child's age for a bear. At as low as US$1 a bear for children below a year old, the promotion is a more than attractive draw as a single toy normally retails for at least US$25.

Build-A-Bear later said online that they thank everyone for their patience and support, and that they will be distributing vouchers to guests for a future purchase.
