Banning Plastic Straws Could Harm the Disabled

Banning Plastic Straws Could Harm the Disabled With campaigns such as #StopSuckingIt going viral and Starbucks, as well as the entire city of Seattle implementing a ban on
plastic straws, it may seem like we're one step closer to saving the environment. But banning plastic straws could have unforeseen consequences for
disabled people. People with limited mobility, chronic pain or motor delays need straws to eat and drink. The same goes for people recovering from surgery on the mouth or jaw. Eco-friendly options, such as reusable metal straws and paper straws, may not be
ideal either. Metal straws are not malleable and paper may disintegrate too quickly. Lei Wiley-Mydske, autism activist, via NPR
