How spiders are able to fly thousands of miles has finally been solved by scientist.

Charles Darwin was left baffled in the 1830s how hundreds of arachnids could descend from the air on board The Beagle on a calm day at sea - and later take-off at great speeds without any wind.

Spiders can travel many hundreds of miles through the air by releasing long fans of silk and floating away known as ballooning.
