Congress files complaint against Sacred Games claiming show insults Rajiv Gandhi | Nation at 9

If you or someone you know has been binge watching sacred games on Netflix for the past couple of days. This debate is not about whether it was good, bad or ugly. It's how we respond to art, cinema and the newest deal, blockbuster web-series. You saw the debate over Udta Punjab, which was accused of defaming an entire state. The debate over Padmavat which was accused of defaming the entire Rajput community and now the Congress in Bengal has filed a complaint against Netflix and Anurag Kashyap for a few lines in one episode when the villain of the piece trashes Rajiv Gandhi in a mean way. No one's saying that this is a documentary, it's patently a work of fiction based out of the book of a man that was written almost 2 decades ago. So two things could be happening either our Netas are hypersensitive about their past greats because they feel that their posterity is somehow fragile and needs daily protection or they're just publicity seeking Ga-Ga brigades in which event we've just played into their hands. While what is art and what is defamation is a part of this debate, what happens when that content is disseminated without by law requiring a censor certificate? Who's the gatekeeper then? Intriguing questions, an intense conversation in store, let's have it, but first here's what's happened.
