Fire destroys 39 boats moored at harbour in Bali

A fire ripped through 39 fishing boats moored at a harbour on popular holiday island Bali, in Indonesia today (July 9).

Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed that all the vessels had been ravaged by the blaze at the Bali Benoa Harbour.

Twenty-five fire trucks were deployed to tackle the fire which was still raging several hours later at 10am local time.

Officials said that so far there were no signs of fatalities after the fire, which left thick grey clouds hanging over the harbour.

Spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said: ''25 fire engines were mobilized to put out the fire. There are no reports of casualties. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities.''
