Danger of collapse at Gjirokastra, Albania's slanted city

  • il y a 6 ans
The fortified centuries-old houses of Gjirokastra, that earned the Albanian city the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage site designation in 2005, are endangered. Some are deserted, falling into disrepair, or undergoing changes that have destroyed their historic value, with owners either unable to agree on the works or too poor to maintain them. Citizens, authorities and NGOs are fighting to preserve this world heritage jewel.
