Mazda is still the only Japanese manufacturer to have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, considered to be the hardest endurance race in the world. With Johnny Herbert, Bertrand Gachot and Volker Weidler the car with the number 55 finished first in 1991, ahead of three JAGUAR XJR 12s and the SAUBER MERCEDES C11.
