The Algerian Government has been strongly criticized for expelling thousands of sub-Saharan migrants into the Sahara Desert. According to an International Organization for Migration official, the Sahara is one of ‘the biggest cemeteries’ in the world, claiming about twice as many lives as the Mediterranean Sea.
