Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID Teaser Trailer - Ariana Grande Concept

Yet another one of my FAN MADE concept trailers for Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of their classic animated film, The Little Mermaid. Featuring Ariana Grande as Ariel, Henry Cavill as Prince Eric, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as King Triton, Queen Latifah as Ursula, Jamie Foxx as Sebastian, and Finn Wolfhard as Flounder.

Out of all the upcoming live-action Disney movies that have been announced, I'm most excited to see The Little Mermaid come to life because translating that iconic film into live-action would be a sight to behold--I can only imagine how visually stunning, magical, grand and breathtaking it will be. And due to the fact that a good chunk of the film takes place underwater, it will most likely break new ground with filmmaking technology. And that's one thing I love about these live-action films...they sort of follow what Walt Disney's intent was with his films; he wanted to take well-known, beloved stories and use them as a base to push the boundaries of film technology.

I have loved all the recent faithful adaptations of Disney’s animated classics, such as Cinderella and The Jungle Book, but the recent Beauty and the Beast raised the bar by completely embracing the animated film and even being a full-on musical. It was a pure magical, nostalgic experience and let us explore a beloved classic with more detail and complexity. It didn’t try to replace the original—it expanded upon it. That film should be the template for every upcoming Disney adaptation, and due to its great success, it’s already looking that way since most upcoming live-action films are planned to be musicals with the original songs (The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Snow White). Also, Lin Manuel Miranda is producing The Little Mermaid so you know it’s gonna be good.

Regarding Ariana Grande as Ariel, I think she would be BEYOND PERFECT for the role. Ariana not only started her career acting and singing on Broadway, but she has that sparkly, bright-eyed, wondrous Disney Princess look and she has proven in the past that she looks great with red hair. And the animated Ariel was actually modeled after a young Alyssa Milano who looks fairly similar to Ariana.
