Prominent West Papuan political prisoner Yanto Awerkion was in court today facing charges of "treason" and a possible 15 year jail sentence. He has recorded this video message calling for international support for his release and for West Papua's freedom.
"For myself it is a risk. But the colonial oppression which I am now facing and the jail sentence that I am now facing is for the future of the nation of the West Papuan people. And West Papua must be free."
Yanto's trial was adjourned yet again today after the prosecution witnesses (both of them Indonesian police officers) failed to show up again. The last court session was adjourned after they were unable to answer questions from the judge.
