Bhayanakam is an upcoming Malayalam–language Indian film written and directed by Jayaraj. The film is an adaptation of two chapters from Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai's epic Malayalam novel Kayar.[1] The story is set in Kuttanad and its backwaters during the World War II and revolves around a postman, who delivers money orders at homes of those who have joined the army. When the war intensifies, he starts bringing in telegrams declaring people dead and he slowly becomes an omen of death.
The film won three awards—Best Direction, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography—at the National Film Awards. Veteran music composer M. K. Arjunan won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director for his work in the film. This was his first ever state film award.
