Trump Claims Canadians Are Smuggling Shoes To Avoid Tariffs
  • 6 years ago
During a speech the National Federation of Independent Businesses about securing US borders on Tuesday, Donald Trump claimed Canadians are traveling to the US to avoid tariffs while shopping. According to Business Insider, Trump said, "They buy shoes and they wear 'em. They scuff 'em up to make 'em sound old, or look old. The tariffs to get common items back into Canada are so high that they have to smuggle 'em in." The comments have quickly been criticized with people saying the absurdity is meant to distract from the president's administration's controversial "zero tolerance" immigration policy.
