According to a report by Reuters, a car bomb claimed at least 26 lives at a gathering of Taliban and Afghan armed forces in the city of Nangarhar on Saturday, during a celebration of the unprecedented Eid ceasefire. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack which targeted unarmed Taliban militants and wounded dozens. Reuters reports that the Taliban had declared a three-day ceasefire over the Eid holiday, overlapping with an Afghan government ceasefire meant to last until Wednesday. President Ashraf Ghani reportedly stated that he would extend the ceasefire with the Taliban, while also asking the Taliban to extend their three-day ceasefire, and agree to peace talks.
