'Don't You Have Any Empathy?' Reporter Lashes Out At Sarah Sanders Over Trump Admin Separating Children From Parents At Border

A reporter on Thursday lashed out at Sarah Huckabee Sanders over the separation of children from parents at the border.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was asked during Thursday's press briefing if she has any empathy.  The question came after Sanders stated that the Trump administration's separation of families illegally crossing the US-Mexico border was simply part of upholding the law.  Brian Karem, executive editor of the Sentinel newspapers, asked, "Come on, Sarah. You're a parent. Don't you have any empathy for what these people are going through?"
"These people have nothing. They come to the border with nothing, and you throw children in cages," Karem added. "You're a parent of young children. Don't you have any empathy for what they go through?"
Though Sanders ultimately declined to respond to his question, the issue is one that many would like to see discussed in a meaningful way. Among them are religious leaders and politicians, some of whom have been staunch supporters of President Trump.  According to the New York Times, requests that family unity be preserved have been made by numerous evangelical groups, including the Southern Baptist Convention.  House Speaker Paul Ryan has voiced his objection to breaking up families as well, telling reporters on Thursday morning, "We don't want kids to be separated from their parents."
