Spain Fires Its Manager One Day Before World Cup

According to Deadspin, Spain has fired its national team manager Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the 2018 World Cup. Sources say the main reason is that Lopetegui accepted a job managing Real Madrid, which would have started after the World Cup, without prior negotiation with the Spanish Soccer Federation. Lopetegui’s appointment to the Real Madrid job was announced just yesterday. At the time, reports say Lopetegui and Madrid hadn’t planned on announcing the move until after the World Cup.
