Watch the Spooky Trailer for 'The Conjuring' Spinoff 'The Nun' ‘The Nun’ will be the fifth film in ‘The Conjuring’ franchise. The spinoff follows a priest and a novitiate who are sent to investigate the death of a nun and encounter a malevolent spirit along the way. The Nun character was first introduced in ‘The Conjuring 2,’ which was released in 2016. The film is directed by Cordin Hardy, with the screenplay written by Gary Dauberman, who wrote 2017’s ‘It’ and both ‘Annabelle’ films. Taissa Farmiga of ‘American Horror Story’ and Demián Bichir star as the two leads. ‘The Nun’ creeps its way into theaters this fall on Sep. 7.
