Streams of Lava Continue to Follow Into Ocean Off Hawaii

Streams of lava from the Kīlauea volcano’s lower East Rift Zone in Hawaii continued to flow into the Pacific Ocean on June 12, creating clouds of steam and hazardous conditions for residents.The US Geological Survey (USGS) shared this footage of the lava entering the ocean in the Vacationland area at around 6.30 am on June 12. The footage is described as showing “laze,” a corrosive seawater plume containing hydrochloric acid and fine volcanic particles that can irritate the skin, eyes, and lungs. Credit: USGS via Storyful
