Now that the ballots have been cast -- it's going to be an intense couple of hours for the candidates,... as they wait to find out their fate.
To help us dissect the numbers and give us an overview of what the outcome means for South Korea's political landscape,... our political correspondent Kim Min-ji joins us in the studio.

The elections have been largely overshadowed by the summit between North Korea and the U.S.,... but still voter turnout is the
Now as it's the first nationwide election under the Moon Jae-in administration,... the outcome is being seen as a barometer of public sentiment toward the government.
We will shortly have the exit polls for our viewers.
South Korea's 3 broadcasters jointly conducted the polls.
Now, we can't rely on them for sure,... but they give us an idea of what we can expect.
We're currently getting the graphics ready.
Now, while we wait,... the final opinion polls before the election,... which were released last Wednesday,... showed the ruling Democratic Party of Korea in a safe lead.
To be exact, it held the upper hand in 14 of 17 districts.
Now something to note here is that they are also in the lead in traditional conservative strongholds,... including Busan and Ulsan.
The main opposition Liberty Korea Party was leading two districts,... but one falls within the margin of error... so we will have to see.
And an independent candidate leads Jeju-do Province.
The situation is more or less the same for by-elections, I understand?

There's 12 parliamentary seats up for grabs -- and given it's nationwide distribution,... it's also been dubbed a mini general election.
In 11 of the districts,... the ruling party again has a lead in the polls.
The one district, which is a conservative stronghold again,... in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Gimcheon District,... the ruling party didn't field a candidate.
