Reviewing North Korea-U.S. summit with expert

Let's go over the summit piece-by-piece,...
With me in studio is Jung Dae-jin, a research fellow at Ajou Institute of Unification for his take on that historic summit the world watched in Singapore,... thank you for joining us.

Great to be here.

Let's get right to it. Indeed,... what an unusual summit we witnessed between Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump,... given that the two countries are still technically in a state of war.
The leaders have headed home after sitting down for a total of five-hours of talks,... as well as signing a joint statement,...
A lot of questions being raised about that joint declaration,... but first,... your takeaway from the summit?

>>2
The joint document was of course signed by both parties,... showing the craftiness and hardline approach that North Korea took into the summit.
You could say Trump seemed overly confident.
As for the results though, who goes home happier? (and why)

>>3
Something we don't see in that joint agreement,… a clear miss from the U.S., is that there's no mention of CVID,… something that was talked about a lot in the run up to the meeting.
Let's take you back to the post-summit press conference where President Trump expressed his confidence in Kim.

"Chairman Kim says North Korea is also destroying a major missile engine testing site. That's not in your signed document. We agreed to that after the agreement was signed. That's a big thing. The missiles they were testing. The site will be destroyed very soon."

There, we see President Trump confident the North Korean leader will stick to his word, though not agreed to on paper.
Is Kim's word good enough?

This morning, we learned (from North Korean state media) that Kim Jong-un had demanded President Trump suspend joint military drills between South Korea and the U.S.
Trump, said he's ending, what he calls "war games" in the region,... and that's NOT included in their joint agreement.
What do you make of that? Can that be seen as step number one towards ending the decades-long Korean War?

>>5
And we saw that video clip before the U.S. President briefed the press on his summit with Kim Jong-un.
The clip, made by the U.S. government, shows what's possible if Kim opens up to the United States, and to the world.
We even have Trump talking about real estate business in North Korea... but what kind of impact would western influence have on Kim's regime?

>>6
What we saw in Singapore,... in terms of the North Korean leader being framed in front of the global media.
We saw it from the Olympics, to his evening stroll in Singapore, and bits of small talk with President Trump at the Capella Hotel.
How do you think Kim has crafted his image on the international stage?

>>7
What now?
We have U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo flying in to South Korea today for talks with President Moon Jae-in as well with his counterparts from Seoul and Tokyo,... something seen as a post-summit diplomacy.
