Singapore on high alert for the Trump-Kim summit

SINGAPORE — Singapore has been busy preparing the city for the historic Trump-Kim summit to be held on June 12.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong told the press on Sunday that hosting the meeting was costing the city-state US$15 million, mainly on enhanced security.
According to the South China Morning Post, Interior minister K. Shanmugam said around 5,000 police officers and first responders will be on hand for the meeting.
Singapore in total has 13,000 police officers and 2,500 first responders, the South China Morning Post reported.
An unspecified number of military personnel have also been deployed, and with at least two warships on patrol off Sentosa island where the meeting will be held.
The Singaporean government has also designated areas around the three hotels — the Shangri-La, St. Regis and Capella — to be used in the summit as "special event areas."
Police in these "special event areas" have enhanced powers to stop and search vehicles.
